The Gastroenterology Department at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead provides a multidisciplinary consultative inpatient and outpatient service for general gastroenterology, inflammatory bowel disease, hepatology, liver transplant, cystic fibrosis, non-CF pancreatic disease, clinical nutrition, parenteral nutrition and developmental disability associated dysphagia for paediatric patients from around NSW.
Service delivery extends to additional patients with liver disease and/or requiring liver transplantation from the ACT and Western Australia.
All referrals are triaged due to our inability to satisfy demand. Some referrals may be declined or redirected if appropriate. Patients may be seen by the Gastroenterology Fellow.

Method of referring
Tertiary referral service, from Paediatricians only. Detailed written referral required, addressed personally to the Gastroenterologist. Some referrals may be declined, or redirected if deemed appropriate.
Function of the clinic
To provide gastroenterology, liver and nutritional consultations for children and adolescents
Directed to Emergency Dept, or discussed by phone with the On-call GI Consultant
