General paediatric medicine

The Sydney Children's Hospitals Network provides a comprehensive general acute and chronic paediatric healthcare service in General Medicine to children under 18 years of age from across New South Wales.

Paediatricians treat children who are:

  • General medical inpatients
  • In the Medical Assessment Unit (MAU)
  • Day-only patients and outpatients

Most patients admitted to the Hospital through the Emergency Department will be cared for by General Medicine. Many patients with chronic conditions, such as asthma, or children who have complex care needs, will be treated by the General Medicine Team. Most patients in hospital for a short time and with an acute condition, will be primarily cared for by General Medicine. We provide a consultative service to Surgical and other departments.
