The Youth Arts Program gets embellished by The Motel Sisters
The workshops, organised by the Department of Adolescent Medicine in partnership with Information and Cultural Exchange, Parramatta (I.C.E.), engaged western-Sydney artist duo The Motel Sisters (Liam Benson & Naomi Oliver) to hold workshops at The Children's Hospital at Westmead.
The Motel Sisters parody and engage with notions of popular culture, suburbia and contemporary art to create works that explore and celebrate the artistic in everyday forms and activities. During February they presented a series of workshops for adolescent patients to make scarves, t-shirts, gowns and tote bags using tie-dye, embroidery and other decorative methods.
The workshops aimed to provide patients with skills so that they can continue to create artworks during their time at the hospital and at home, using accessible materials and techniques.
