Care for children with hearing impairments will be fast-tracked under a new scheme announced by the National Disability Insurance Agency.
Children under seven will be accelerated into the National Disability Insurance Scheme so they are able to receive early-intervention support, while a large back log of kids waiting to access the scheme will be cleared.
Fast access is vital as it allows children to move quickly from diagnosis to early intervention, which can assist in avoiding developmental delay.
Newborns and young children with profound hearing loss or auditory neuropathy will be prioritised and their inclusion in the scheme has been escalated for urgent response.
Prices for provision of hearing services will be revised.
