Westmead Revelopment project

The Westmead Redevelopment will transform the precinct into an innovative, contemporary and integrated centre delivering high-quality healthcare for decades to come.

Over $900m has been allocated to the Westmead Redevelopment:

  • $750m for a new hospital building
  • $72m for car parking
  • $95m for The Children’s Hospital at Westmead

A wide range of activity is proposed for the Redevelopment which is taking place between 2015 and 2020.

How will the Redevelopment affect your visit?

The new helipad for The Children's Hospital at Westmead is currently being constructed on the top floor of the visitors' car park on Hainsworth Street. Stacked parking, managed by our friendly parking attendants, has been implemented to ensure there is adequate parking available. If you do experience delays in the car park, please ask the attendants to direct you to other nearby public parking locations at nearby Westmead Hospital.

Parking changes

The main focus for 2016 is building new car parking and preparing the site for the start of main construction works in 2017.

Part of this investment will include upgrades to existing parking structures. There will also be work done on improving road access and pathway realignments.

One of the first major changes to parking will be the construction of a new helipad on the top floor of The Children’s Hospital at Westmead’s visitors’ car park on Hainsworth Street.

From mid-2016, the top floor of the visitors’ car park was closed for construction of the helipad. It is expected to reopen by the end of the year when the helipad becomes operational.

An increase in stacked parking services in the visitors’ car park will ensure there is no net loss in parking

If you are coming for an appointment or to visit a patient, where possible leave yourself extra time to get to the Hospital.

Updates across the Westmead precinct

The Precinct Post is an initiative of the NSW Government's Westmead Redevelopment project. It celebrates the innovation and success in healthcare, education and research across the Westmead precinct.
