Education, employment and epilepsy
Education
- Some teenagers with epilepsy can get extra assistance for the school certificate and higher school certificate exams. For more information and to see if your child is eligible, visit the NSW Education Standards Authority website.
- Your child's school or careers counsellor can give advice about education and career choices.
Employment
Many people with epilepsy have fulfilling and challenging careers.
- When considering a career, talk to your child and their school counsellor about possible options.
- Also think about whether they would be safe if they were to have a seizure in that work environment. For example, it would be safe to be a teacher, but it may not be possible to be a pilot.
- Think about if the work environment would be safe for seizures.
