What is a craniofacial disorder?

Craniofacial disorders relate to the bones of the skull (cranio) and face (facial) and are congenital musculoskeletal abnormalities — or birth defects - of the face and head. These can include common disorders such as cleft lip and palate, and disorders are often characterised by a small jaw.

The treatment of craniofacial disorders depends on the condition. Plastic and reconstructive surgery may be required.

In 2018, The Project produced this segment about children with craniofacial abnormalities and the difficulties they face. It's well worth a look.
