Infectious Diseases and Microbiology at The Children's Hospital at Westmead
The Infectious Diseases Service at The Children's Hospital at Westmead provides a mainly consultative service, including telephone advice and clinical patient review, to all other clinical departments within the Hospital as well as other metropolitan and rural hospitals and medical practitioners.
The Microbiology, Virology and Molecular Pathology Departments at The Children's Hospital at Westmead all provide an integrated and comprehensive laboratory diagnostic service to patients. Services include the diagnostic laboratories of microbiology, virology and molecular pathology and antimicrobial stewardship within the facility.
The Microbiology, Virology and Molecular Pathology service identifies micro-organisms and performs sensitivity testing, where appropriate, and provides regular phone advice regarding significant microbiology or virology results and optimal therapy.
The Infectious Diseases Service also provides TB testing, surveillance and follow-up.
