The Infectious Diseases service at SCH provides a clinical infectious diseases consultation service, which means that the service:
- Provides immunisation advice and support
- Helps medical colleagues who have patients with the spectrum of infections including severe or difficult to diagnose infections
- Works to improve the way infections are managed
- Has major input in infection prevention and control and how antibiotics are used in the hospital.
SCH provides a statewide role in the management of paediatric HIV. Laboratory microbiology, virology, serology and molecular services are provided by the NSW Health Pathology based on the POW Campus. Tuberculosis services are provided in the POW Adult Chest Clinic.
