A Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) provides specialised critical care and services to critically ill children. Doctors, nurses and a range of other health care specialists work together to achieve the best outcomes for patients and a range of support services are also available for families.

How we help children in paediatric intensive care

The Sydney Children's Hospitals Network Paediatric Intensive Care Services provide the majority of Paediatric Intensive Care services in NSW and, combined, form the largest paediatric critical care service in Australasia.

The Children's Hospital Westmead (CHW) Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) supports cardiac patients and provides intensive care support to a range of sub-specialties such as burns, liver transplantation, airway reconstructive surgery, neurosurgery, Level 1 Trauma Service, post-operative renal transplantation, oncology, spinal and other surgery.

The Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick (SCH) PICU provides intensive care support to a range of subspecialities such as neonates undergoing surgical procedures, cardiac patients, airway reconstructive surgery, neurosurgery, Level 1 Trauma Service, post-operative renal transplantation, oncology and spinal.
