Referrals must be made by a Medical Practitioner by calling the Pain Nurse on 9845 2573 or calling Hospital switch on 9845 0000 and page 6252.
These patients will also need to have a completed Chronic Pain referral form which can be emailed or faxed to the department.
These can be arranged by phoning the Switchboard on (02) 9845 0000 and paging:
- Pain Fellow (6236)
- Pain Nurses (6252 or 6151)
- Anaesthetic registrar (after hours) on 6008
The Children's Hospital at Westmead acute pain team provides a ward round to all wards on a daily basis.
The Hospital provides two Complex Pain clinics each week, one of which is multidisciplinary. Inpatient consultations are also provided.
The Burns Pain Management Service for The Children's Hospital at Westmead's Burns Unit is the statewide paediatric arm of the NSW Severe Burn Injury Service and is the sole referral centre for all major paediatric burns in NSW.
The Hospital also provides a specialised cancer pain management service.

The clinic runs with a multi-disciplinary team approach - including a pain medicine specialist, physiotherapist, clinical psychologist and nurse practitioner, which treats and manages complex and persistent pain for children up to the age of 18 (new referrals must be under 16 years of age).
