Gold Telethon raises a record $4.6 million

It was a day of golden moments and beating golden records when Sydney Children’s Hospital raised more than $4.6 million during its annual Gold Telethon – a new high in donations and support for sick children and their families.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who got involved!

In its fifth year, the Gold Telethon was broadcast live on Channel Nine, NBN and WIN television and not only showcased some of Australia’s best musical talent, but also provided a glimpse into the amazing stories of patients and staff at Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick.

Add to that live celebrity challenges for charity, more than $10,000 raised by patients and staff on Channel 9’s special edition of Millionaire Hot Seat, and a golden transformation of the Hospital courtyard thanks to Kyal & Kara and Brad & Lara from Channel 9’s The Block, and you have yourself the most successful Telethon to date.

Since its inception four years ago, the Gold Telethon has raised almost $10 million for Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick. Last year, the major fundraiser meant we had an extra $4.02 million to use for the care of sick children and their families.

This year, after surpassing the target of $4.5 million, Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick will now be able to use these generous donations for the areas of greatest need around the Hospital, including:

  • Research into personalised medicine for rare diseases
  • Vital equipment like the video largyoscope for the anaesthetics department
  • Funding for a project that will revolutionise patient care by making electronic medical records across multidisciplinary teams a reality.

Thank you again to all who took part in this record year for Gold Telethon. Until 2015!
