Radiothon 2017 raises more than $3.8 million
The Children’s Hospital at Westmead’s Radiothon appeal was a huge success, raising an incredible $3.8 million this year!
This year, Radiothon 2017 was a 24 hour all-or-nothing appeal. Every donation made from 6pm, Thursday 16 November to 6pm, Friday 17 November was matched by our generous donor matchers such as The Kid's Cancer Project, Kids With Cancer Foundation, Sporting Chance Cancer Foundation, Event Cinemas & Rydges Hotels, The George Gregan Foundation, DOOLEYS Lidcombe Catholic Club, Ottomin Foundation and one anonymous donor. The funds raised will go directly to the Hospital to purchase lifesaving equipment, conduct research into childhood disease and deliver vital services to patients and families.
“We are overwhelmed with the generosity and support of this year’s appeal. With this kind of result we are able to give more support to departments who need it most. It enables staff to perform state of the art procedures by giving them access to improved technology, and provides patients and families a level of support they wouldn’t otherwise receive,” said Gilly Paxton, Director of Community Relations and Marketing at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
smoothfm ‘s on-air coverage was supported by 7 News Sydney , featuring exciting entertainment at the Hospital, and incredible stories from patients, staff and volunteers. Throughout the day, there were several special guest performances on Homeworld Centre Stage including Leo Sayer, Bonnie Anderson, Brothers3 and Reece Mastin. Live entertainment from The Bearded Bakers, Erth Dinosaur Show, Batman and Spiderman was also enjoyed on the day. For patients unable to leave their beds, they were treated to one-on-one visits by the likes of Western Sydney Wanderers, Parramatta Eels and RD-D2.
Representatives from dozens of companies, businesses, community groups and charities attended the day, taking part in on-stage cheque presentations and segments broadcast on 7 News Sydney .
A big thank you to all staff, patients, families and volunteers for your support and involvement in Radiothon 2017.
