Parramatta Light Rail works begin at Westmead
Change is coming to the Westmead precinct and from Monday, April 1, the Westmead Redevelopment will enter a new phase with the opening stages of the Parramatta Light Rail project to begin.
The Hawkesbury Road widening signals a major piece of work before tracks can be laid and light rail stops constructed at Westmead Station, Westmead Hospital and The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. The road widening project will allow the light rail to be built from 2020.
Significant activity along Hawkesbury Road, from Darcy Road to Jessie Street, will begin from April 1. Works will result in changes to parking, traffic conditions and pedestrian walking routes.
Motorists will still be able to travel Hawkesbury Road in both directions and drivers will be supported with clear signage and road markings. The safety of patients, visitors and staff during construction work is paramount. All staff, families and other visitors to our Hospital are asked to take extra care when driving down Hawkesbury Road from Monday.
While parking along Hawkesbury Rd won’t be immediately impacted, spaces will be permanently removed or relocated from May 1. All mobility spaces on Hawkesbury Road will be moved to other locations and won’t be reduced in number.
More specific information on these changes will be made available closer to the date.
