Time to say thanks

Our hospitals often receive support from private companies who are committed to helping sick kids, says Bianca Pratt, Patient and Family Engagment Officer.

So we're saying thanks to those who help us improve the hospital experience.

Here’s a snapshot of their generosity over the last few months.

Phone chargers installed in waiting areas at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead

You can now charge your phone in all outpatient, surgical and theatre waiting areas in the hospital.

Thanks to Ezy Charge who discounted their service to us which meant we were able to install more chargers for you to use.

There is also a lockable charging station in the main emergency department and fast track waiting area.

Easy lounging now in Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick waiting areas

Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick, are the lucky recipients of 13 new leather lounges, generously donated by King Furniture.

Thanks also to Michelle Honan, the hospital Patients’ Friend, who worked hard on this project so families could rest in comfort while waiting.

Parent accommodation improvements at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead

Thanks to a generous donation from a corporate business, the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit has renovated its parent accommodation and kitchen.

The bedrooms have been refurbished and have new beds, new carpet and lino and are freshly painted.

The kitchen has new tables and chairs, new lino and fresh paint. Rita Daher, Customer Service Officer, coordinated the entire project so big thanks should go to her. Feedback has been positive, and families report that their time staying in hospital with their children has vastly improved.

Support for bereavement

There is nothing worse than losing a child.

Supporting families who are experiencing bereavement requires much more than high-quality clinical care. Providing privacy, comfort and homely accommodation so a family can experience the end-of-life journey is really important.

  • Ikea in Rhodes has generously furnished a room where families feel comfortable to spend time with each other and their child.
  • Baby Kingdom and Tasman Eco, pitched in to help and provided new bassinets to use while families say goodbye to their precious baby.
  • Living Textiles provided the finishing touches with linen for the bassinets, baby blanket and koala bears that families can keep as a keepsake in memory of their child.
