Deck the halls for Party Day
The halls and corridors of The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick were decked with decorations to celebrate the hospitals' annual Party Day.
Party Day is an annual celebration at the hospitals with many wards and departments joining in the Christmas festivities by decorating their areas in different themes and dressing up in costumes to match.
At The Children's Hospital at Westmead, Santa took time out of his busy schedule to video call directly from the North Pole to make a list and check things twice to ensure he captured all the patients Christmas wishes before entrusting his elves to distribute goodies for all the children across the Hospital.
This year, Santa and his elves also put together a very special one-hour virtual Party Day for the patients and their families. The show includes special guest appearances from his friends such as children’s book author; Andy Griffiths, Guy Sebastian, the Home & Away cast, Disney Princesses, superheroes, Clown Doctors, Captain Starlight, NSW Fire & Rescue, Alpacas and performances from the Wiggles and Johnny Ruffo.
Director of Nursing at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Alan Gardo, says Party Day is a fun day for not only the patients and their families but also the staff.
“Our dedicated staff spend months preparing and decorating their wards to truly transform the Hospital into a spectacular site for our patients and their families. A child spending time in hospital can be challenging for the whole family so our goal is to bring a little Christmas joy to them,” said Mr Gardo.
At Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick, festivities included a zoom call from world renowned actress Margot Robbie and Masterchef contestant, Hayden Quinn, plus virtual visits from Elsa, Starlight, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Wildlife Zoo and Fairy Sparkle.
The day also included the ward decoration competition, which was taken out by C3West and the annual Party Day video - a highlight for patients, staff and families alike, and lots of photos.
