NAIDOC Week 2022

NAIDOC Week is a time to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

SCHN Aboriginal Health Outcomes and Equity Manager Natasha Larter says this year’s theme Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! is about moving beyond tokenistic gestures and good intentions. It’s about working together to lead change.

“We want to be advocates and allies working together with our non-Indigenous brothers and sisters towards truth-telling, treaty, constitutional change, environmental, cultural and heritage protections. And to achieve that, we must get up, stand up and show up.”

“At SCHN, this means working with our patients, families and communities to better understand their social and cultural needs and find solutions to any issues they face.

“It means we continue to show up and fight for change, for improved health outcomes every day - not just when presented with an Aboriginal child in need, but every single day, fight for equity in health, access to services, acknowledgement and recognition of culture and history in their care management plans and in the spaces that they visit while at SCHN.”

“It is important to consider how we can improve the Aboriginal patient experience and health outcomes through personal, interpersonal, organisational and systematic change,” agrees Population Health Project Officer Seaneen Wallace.

“Only by working together will we be able to affect real change and improvements to health outcomes and equity for Aboriginal children.”

NAIDOC Week 2022 runs from 3 to 10 July.
