Leading nurse wins at Rotary awards

For almost four decades, Verity Luckey has dedicated her life to looking after others and empowering nurses to be their best selves in providing high quality care.

This week, Verity, who is Director of Nursing at the Sydney Children’s Hospital Randwick (SCH), was honoured for this ongoing commitment, being named as the winner of the 2022 Rotary Inspirational Woman - Health Care Worker award.

This prestigious award recognises dedication, perseverance and a proactive approach to improving the lives of others in keeping with Rotary’s motto of ‘Service Above Self.’

Starting her nursing career in Adelaide in 1985, Verity has always had a passion for healthcare, serving the community through caring for others in both clinical and management roles. She took a lead role at SCH through the COVID-19 pandemic in addition to her position as Director of Nursing, and also dedicates her time to developing women in leadership.

“Nurses are the unsung heroes of the healthcare system and the pandemic, so awarding nurses for the hard work they do is phenomenal. I’m proud to not only be a nurse, but also work alongside them as well,” Verity said.

“I take such pride in looking after the new generation in our community and supporting our nursing staff who work with compassion every day.”

Verity is well known as an extremely caring individual who always puts our patients, families and staff in the forefront with credibility.

As a mentor, she has inspired and empowered many nurses to be their very best in providing exceptional care to the children and families of NSW.

In addition, Verity also regularly speaks at forums to support the progression of women in leadership roles.

Congratulations Verity on this outstanding achievement.
