Building better

  • Evolution of rare diagnostic service

The Malignant Hyperthermia Testing Unit is one of the spaces transferring over to the new PSB. The new, fit-for-purpose space is a testament to the work the late Dr Neil Street and doctors David Baines, Margaret Perry and Mark Lovell dedicated to researching the rare, life-threatening condition.
  • John Holland welcomed to the SCH family

John Holland - the company the project team has partnered with to build the $658 million Sydney Children's Hospital, Stage 1 (SCH) and Minderoo Children's Comprehensive Cancer Centre (MCCCC) Randwick redevelopment - is at the forefront of a cultural shift in the industry to prioritise health and wellbeing
  • Children of all abilities catered for in CHW play areas

Three unique play areas have been designed for The Children's Hospital at Westmead (CHW), as part of the $619 million redevelopment project to transform kids’ health. They will feature accessible equipment, pathways and seating areas for children using mobility aids.
  • Artwork honours hospital heroes

Have you seen our new environmental murals in Block K, as part of The Children's Hospital at Westmead? The graphics were sparked by the Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation (SCHF) capital campaign and are the most significant donor recognition project the hospital has ever undertaken.
  • Workshops explore local Aboriginal art and culture

Young people from the hospital's chronic illness support groups learnt the traditional Aboriginal art forms of shellwork and ochre painting at recent workshops. The sessions are aligned with an Aboriginal Engagement Strategy followed by the redevelopment team, which aims to include Aboriginal voices in all project stages to achieve an inclusive and culturally safe hospital.
