Isolated Limb Injuries: Application of Plaster of Paris in the ED - SCH
Document Purpose
To facilitate treatment of patients presenting to the Emergency Department with isolated limb injuries or fractures requiring immobilisation. Application of a Plaster of Paris (PoP) back slab is a common, effective and economical method of supporting a fracture. Synthetic substitutes may also be applied if available.
Correct application reduces pain and swelling, promotes sound bony union without deformity, protects against further injury and assists in the restoration of function.
