NSW Immunisation Specialist Service (NSWISS)

The NSW Immunisation Specialist Service was launched on 27 April 2016 and provides a drop-in immunisation clinic, an immunisation specialist clinic and an 1800 telephone advice service for NSW healthcare providers. 

Drop-in Immunisation Clinic

Specialist immunisation nurses administer immunisations and provide advice to children going to the outpatient department or visiting the hospital.

Influenza vaccine is offered to patients and their family including parents during Influenza season.

Immunisation specialist clinic

The specialist clinic at the Children's Hospital at Westmead provides in-depth consultation for parents concerned about immunisation, as well as specialist management for children who have experienced a possible reaction following immunisation. It also administers vaccines under medical supervision to children who can’t be vaccinated in the community.

The clinic also delivers a number of other related services, which can be found on the National Centre for Immunisation Research & Surveillance website.

  • When: every Friday 9am – 12pm

The service is free for Medicare card holders and a referral letter from a patient’s GP is required. The referral letter should be addressed to A/Prof Nicholas Wood, Immunisation Specialist clinic.

1800 Telephone Service

NSW healthcare providers, particularly those in rural regions, can take advantage of a specialist immunisation telephone service - 1800 NSWISS (1800 679 477) - providing clinical advice and a Telehealth consultation (if required).

Highly specialised nursing and medical staff from the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS) are on hand to assist with enquiries.

The service is available Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm, with the option to leave a message after hours for staff to respond to.
