Services for Aboriginal families

Aboriginal Health Workers play a vital role in our hospital for the care, connection and trust they provide. They walk beside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their families.

Aboriginal Health Workers provide cultural support, advocacy, guidance and connection for patients and families. They work alongside families and hospital teams to help ensure care is culturally safe, respectful and responsive to the individual needs of each child and family.

If you or your child identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and would like support from the Aboriginal Health team, please ask your nurse to make a referral to Aboriginal Health via EMR.

The Aboriginal Children’s Memorial Garden at Westmead

The Aboriginal Children’s Memorial Garden is located in the grassed area near the eucalypt trees within the Children’s Garden. It was designed by Aboriginal people as a place of cultural importance.

The garden provides a peaceful place away from the hospital building that can be visited by children, families and hospital staff.
