Youth Arts Community Cultural Development Projects
Adolescent patients, their friends and families are given the opportunity to participate in Cultural Community Development (CCD) art projects during their treatment. The Youth Arts Program believes that the patients can explore what makes them unique, creative individuals and continue with essential activities that are available to them in their normal everyday lives. This ‘normalisation’ helps them to maintain and develop concepts around identity and connect with other peers in meaningful, relaxing and fun activities. The finished artworks then help shape the spaces inhabited by the adolescent inpatients, thus enhancing the environment and forming positive connections to the hospital.
The CCD projects can be varying in scale, are completed within the group program, or with targeted groups of patients. We use a variety of art forms, with a range of participation levels (access points) to suit the interest and ability of patients. The projects always involve an artist so there is a consistency in quality and high level of skill development.
