Rheumatology and supporting your child at school

Contact your child’s team to discuss your concerns and they can provide you with guidance on how to proceed.

The rules for secondary school are more stringent and may require detailed documentation and assessments. For students undertaking the High School Certificate (HSC), it is recommended these discussions should occur early to allow time for the school and team to get the documentation that is required.

  • Arthritis Australia has developed a resource for teachers, which we recommend families to share with your school. Most teachers and families have found this resource helpful in assisting schools support children and young people remain engaged in their school.

If your child requires physical assistance to attend school, speak to your care team for assistance. The occupational and physiotherapist may be available to assist with practical support.
