Targeted therapy

Targeted therapies are medications that attack specific changes in a cancer cell, with reduced impact on the normal healthy cells.

Targeted therapies are used in specific cancers that have a genetic change in them that can be directly targeted by specific drugs.

It can be used alone or in combination with other treatments, such as chemotherapy and radiation. However, targeted therapy does not work for everyone affected by cancer

Targeted therapies may be oral tablets, but sometimes can be given through a drip. Targeted therapies do have side effects, but usually are less toxic than chemotherapy.

Your child and your child’s cancer need to match a targeted treatment for it to be an option for your child.
