Western Sydney Genetics Program
About the program
The Western Sydney Genetics Program (WSGP) is a multidisciplinary, state-wide clinical and research program based primarily at The Children's Hospital at Westmead (CHW). It focuses on providing state-wide diagnostic services and clinical care for children and young people with genetic conditions.
Their research aims to translate the recent genomics and precision medicine revolution into transformative paediatric medical care, broadly including advanced therapy clinical trials, healthcare implementation science, novel disease gene discovery and rare disease diagnosis.
The program works in strong collaboration with many organisations including the Children’s Medical Research Institute, Sydney Health Partners and Luminesce Alliance.
Clinical services
Our clinical services are primarily based at CHW and support state-wide services, including other NSW Local Health Districts (LHDs) and the Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick.
Lab services
Our laboratory services cover a broad range of genetic analysis services. Our Cytogenetics, Molecular Genetics Labs and Nucleic Acid extraction Unit form part of the Sydney Genome Diagnostics (SGD) services.
Research
Our research helps inform new ways we can provide our services. They are part of Kids Research, and are based at CHW.
