Aiming for Asthma Improvement in Children

Aiming for Asthma Improvement in Children (AAIC) is a NSW state-wide program coordinated by Clinical Nurse Consultants from Sydney Children's Hospital Randwick, Respiratory Department.
The aim of the program is to facilitate continuity and consistency of care for the child with asthma through collaboration with NSW Ministry of Health, peak asthma consumer and health professional organisations, other health professionals, education departments, childcare organisations, and families/carers.
The four pillars of the AAIC program are: A = Asthma Research, A = Advocacy, I = Innovative Asthma Educational Models, and C = Consultancy
Parent/Carer Asthma information live webinar sessions
Provided FREE and delivered by Clinical Nurse Consultants who are experienced in the management of childhood asthma
You can link into the session using our web-based video conferencing platform
Topics include:
- the latest information regarding your child’s asthma, their asthma medications, how to take them correctly
- following your child’s asthma action plan, recognising worsening asthma and when to seek medical help
- good asthma control, including day to day management within the home, school, and childcare settings

School Staff training
Whilst our usual face to face training either onsite at your school or at one of our local venues is not a current option, your staff can still access quality asthma management training through the following training modes:

- Whole of school staff 'Virtual Learning' session via a real time interactive virtual learning platform. There is a fee for this service.

Children's Service Staff ACECQA asthma management training
We provide asthma management training approved by the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA)
Training is currently offered via a real time interactive learning platform, conducted by qualified Clinical Nurse Consultants who have extensive knowledge in the health and safety requirements of the children’s services sector.The course is suitable for childcare staff, crèche staff, volunteers, OSHC, and preschool staff and an ACECQA approved certificate of participation is provided.
Children's Service Staff asthma resources
NSW Health Schools and Child Services Action Plan for Asthma Flare-Up
This is a NSW Health recommended form specifically designed to be used within schools, childcare, and Out of School Hours Care. The form, which provides asthma first aid instructions for the child, is to be completed by the child’s doctor or nurse practitioner and returned to the school/children’s service.
Asthma Management Information Pack for Children's Service Staff
This resource provides an overview of children's asthma and management in the children's service setting.
