The Public Relations Department manages communications and media liaison for The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. Working closely with metropolitan and regional media outlets across the country we share important health messages relating to babies, children and young people while protecting the privacy of our patients and their families. We manage publicity for the Hospital’s major events including the Bandaged Bear Appeal.
We also work with schools on a range of educational and fundraising activities Operation Art, an initiative of The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in collaboration with the Department of Education and Communities, involves school students – from Kindergarten to Year 10 in all NSW schools – in creating artworks for children in hospital .
Through a wide range of publications we maintain the Hospital’s profile to promote our specialist care, community education, advocacy for improved child health and ground-breaking research into childhood illnesses.
Our team organises entertainment for sick children and special visitors including regulars like Clown Doctors and the Delta Dogs to help make their stay in Hospital less daunting.
Information tours and art tours of the Hospital can be arranged through the Public Relations Department for students and other interested community or professional groups. Please be aware that we do not allow the general public to visit wards of the Hospital as we are mindful of infection control and our patients’ right to privacy.
Donations of toys should be directed to the Volunteers Service and donations of goods or money should be directed to the Fundraising Department.
For urgent media enquiries afterhours the on-call media officer should be contacted through the Hospital Switchboard on (02) 9845 0000.
