Respiratory testing at the Centre of Adolescent and Youth Health (CAYAH)

The Respiratory Function Unit provides testing to diagnose, assess the severity of disease and monitor treatment progress. 

The laboratory tests patients with a broad range of respiratory disorders including Asthma, Cystic fibrosis, Suppurative Lung Disease, Neuromuscular disorders and congenital lung malformations.

CAYAH is located in Westmead Hospital and the map below shows the easiest route to find CAYAH from the main entrance at The Children's Hospital at Westmead. It's a short 400 m walk.

Billing and results

Your child has been referred to the Respiratory Function Unit at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead for lung function testing.

Referral from physician within the Children’s Hospital at Westmead:

  • A preliminary result will be available immediately upon completion of the test.
  • A final copy of the test including a physician's report will be available within 5 business days.

Referral is from a paediatrician outside of the Children’s Hospital at Westmead: 

  • A final copy of the test including a physician’s report will be sent to your doctor within 5 business days.

Patients that are eligible for Medicare are bulk billed. If your child is ineligible for Medicare, please contact the lab for further information.
