The doors to Edgar Stephen are locked 24 hours a day. Access is only available by pressing the intercom on the wall outside the ward. For the safety of children and families, staff will open the door for you to enter or leave the ward.  

If you are staying with your child overnight, you need to be listed on our register. Sometime in the afternoon or evening, one of our staff will come around and ask if anyone is staying with your child overnight.

Parent lounge

Edgar Stephen ward has a parent lounge located at the end of the long corridor. This is a child-free space where you can go to relax, watch TV, enjoy the free tea and coffee facilities or have something to eat in peace and quiet. There is a small fridge where you can keep food. Please label any food with your child’s name and the date. Any unlabelled food will be thrown away when your child is discharged.  

Please keep the volume of the TV to a minimum, for the sake of all parents/carers using the lounge. The TV will be turned off in the evenings, as there are parents/carers sleeping in the rooms attached.  

Please keep the parent’s lounge shower and bathroom facilities clean and leave it as you would like to find it yourself. If the area is dirty, please let a member of staff so we can organise a cleaner.  

Play area

There is a patient play area for patients to play in located near the patient kitchen. Please ask you nurse if you would like to use the patient play area and leave the area clean and as you would like to find it.
