Pain management and procedure support

Pain

There are many options for pain relief to support children living with EB. The wounds that some children experience have been likened to severe burns.

Different prescriptions can be organised for wound care, bath time, sleep, and for times of increased severity.

If your child requires support for pain management, please mention this before your next EB clinic and you can be referred to the Pain team at Sydney Children's hospital.

Procedural Support

When pain is not managed effectively, it can have negative impacts on care due to a child's inability to tolerate procedures. This can also lead to procedural anxiety.

We have a child life therapist that can work closely with parents and children during their EB clinic as well as support them to learn techniques to prepare for procedures in the future to reduce anxiety.
