Feed and Wrap MRI

An MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) uses a magnet and radio waves to create clear, detailed pictures of the inside of the body. MRI does not use radiation and is a safe medical procedure.

MRIs are used to examine soft tissues like the brain, internal organs, muscles and nerves.

Our staff continuously monitor your baby and will keep them safe and comfortable throughout the process.

About the appointment

Getting to the hospital

Please arrive 1 hour early to allow time to talk with the Radiologist and to feed your baby in a quiet room.​

What to bring to the appointment

Please bring any items that your baby will need:

  • prepared formula and bottles if your baby is bottle fed
  • nappies
  • dummy or comforter 
  • change of clothes
  • food if your child has started solids

Before the scan​

  1. A radiographer will do a safety check after we will ask you to change your baby’s nappy. ​
  2. We will help you dress your baby in a hospital gown and wrap them warmly with a weighted blanket. 
  3. We will put earmuffs on your baaby to protect their hearing as the MRI can be noisy. 
  4. We will give you a private room to feed and settle your baby. Once settled, please let us know you are ready to proceed with the scan.​

During the scan​

  • We will place your baby will on a bed that slides into the MRI machine. 
  • The scan takes approximately 30-40 minutes.
  • We continuously monitor your baby by MRI staff who will keep them safe and comfortable. 

MRI does not use radiation and is a safe procedure. ​

After the scan​

You are fee to go home. 

The MRI report will be sent to your doctor. Please contact them to discuss the results.
