Asthma

Asthma is not the same for each child.  Types of asthma triggers and the time of year a child is most impacted can differ.

The most common trigger for asthma flares up are respiratory viruses like a cold or the flu.  Changes in the season and poor air quality due to smoke wood fires can also be a trigger.

Always be prepared:

  • ensure your child has an Asthma Action Plan and that it is updated regularly
  • stay up to date with immunisations and vaccinations like the flu shot, and get your child vaccinated before the flu season arrives
  • monitor predicted changes to the weather forecast and the air quality
  • don't smoke or vape around children with asthma
  • if required, have the appropriate medication filled and on hand.
