Carbon monoxide poisoning
Enjoying a classic Aussie BBQ or cozying up to a warm outdoor heater is a timeless Australian tradition. However, to keep you and your family safe it is important to remember:
- outdoor BBQs and heaters need to remain outside and
- proper installation and ventilation of heaters are needed to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
Carbon monoxide is a poisonous gas that you cannot see, taste, or smell. It is made when fuels used for heating, cooking, and transport do not burn fully. Carbon monoxide can build up in enclosed spaces like homes, garages, and sheds and can cause poisoning or death very quickly.
Everyone is at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, especially babies. Carbon monoxide is an invisible threat that can lead to serious health risks and can be life-threatening.
