About our service
General Medicine provides high quality evidence-based general paediatric care for children who are admitted to the hospital with acute or chronic conditions (such as asthma or those with complex care needs). We also support Hospital in the Home as a model of care and review patients in our Acute Review clinic.
Our holistic care team includes senior and junior doctors, nursing and allied health staff. We work closely with other paediatric units in both metropolitan and rural areas to promote care in the family’s local area.
We also provide general paediatric outpatient services within our local catchment area.
Referral process for clinicians
Our department is using Consultmed to manage referrals. The Consultmed platform allows health professionals to send e-referrals to us securely.
Please consider using HealthPathways before referring a patient for review. The Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick general paediatric clinic only accepts new patient referrals for patients who live in the local catchment area of Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick.

Referral and appointment process for parents and carers
Request a referral
To see a general paediatrician you will need a referral from your local doctor, which is then reviewed to provide the most appropriate service as soon as possible for your child.
- Referrals to General Paediatricians can be made by General Practitioners or by any other medical practitioner who has a provider number
- Please address referrals to Dr Michael Plaister (Head of Department)
- The Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick general paediatric clinic only accepts new patient referrals for patients who live in the local catchment area of Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick
Track your referral
Our department uses Consultmed to manage referrals. Your referring clinician sends the e-referral to us using the secure Consultmed platform.
Once we receive the referral, we will send you an email with your tracking information. We will update you as we process the referral and book your appointment.
To receive these updates, please ask your referring clinician to include your email on the referral.

Follow up appointments for existing patients of the clinics can be made by calling the outpatients booking clerk on (02) 9382 1470. Patients must have a valid referral at the time of making the appointment.
