About our service

The anaesthetics service is made up of staffworking across seven main locations within the hospital including the imaging department, interventional radiology, and the operating theatres. This team provides:

  • comprehensive anaesthesia services to all paediatric surgery, radiotherapy, radiology and oncology patients
  • sedation services
  • an acute pain service
  • support to the inpatient units for insertion of difficult lines
  • and to the oncology service day procedural area.

Dr Shona Chung - Head of Department

Biography
MBBS BSc BA FANZCA PGCert (Clinical Trials) EACVI TOE Qualification.
Shona completed her Anaesthesia training at POW and Sydney Children’s Hospital. Subsequently spending 3 years in London: extending her training in Cardiac Anaesthesia. She returned to Randwick in 2017 and was an SOT for 6 years. She is currently the HOD of Sydney Children’s Hospital Anaesthesia department. She actively participates in aid work with Open Heart International.

Dr Gretel Davidson - Deputy Head of Department

Biography
(MBBS (USyd), FANZCA, FFPMANZCA, Grad Dip (Pain Mgmt).
Dr Davidson is a qualified Anaesthetist and Pain Specialist with an interest in paediatrics and adolescents. She has been a Staff Specialist at Randwick since completing anaesthesia training in 2005, and has worked across both SCHN campuses. She has been an instructor for APLS, is involved in a number of committees in ANZCA, and travels for volunteer surgical missions to the Philippines.

Biography
Conjoint Associate Professor, FANZCA, MB BS (Hon1), BSc.
David Has been a staff Anaesthetist for the past 27 years with the subspecialty of Paediatric Anaesthesia. He is actively involved teaching undergraduates and specialist trainees. He has strong interests in Quality Assurance, Fluid and Electrolyte management, Biomedical Equipment and is published widely in the field of Regional Anaesthesia, in-particular, image guided regional anaesthesia.
