Here's a list of resources and/or services to support your financial wellbeing.

Wesley Mission Financial Counselling services

Wesley Mission Financial Counselling services provide free, independent, and confidential counselling to assist people experiencing financial difficulty. The counsellors work with clients to help them manage and break the cycle of debt and take control of their finances.

A financial counsellor will:

  • help you put together a budget to assist you in getting a clear understanding of your financial situation
  • provide you with information about the options you have available to address your financial challenges
  • advocate or negotiate on your behalf with creditors, government agencies and others.

Financial counselling via The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army’s free Moneycare financial counselling service has professional counsellors who provide personalised advice on how to get through your money problems and avoid trouble in the future. The service is free and confidential.

No Interest Loan Scheme

The No Interest Loan Scheme (NILS) is for individuals and families on low incomes. It gives you access to safe, fair, and affordable lending, so you can buy the essential items you need. You can borrow up to $1,500 (or $2,000 if you have experienced family violence). Loans are repaid over a 12-18 month period, and you’ll only have to repay what you’ve borrowed – no extras.

NILS are provided via various organisations and charities across NSW. 

Firmer Foundations

Firmer Foundations is a free coaching program for women who want better financial wellbeing. Financial capability coaching provides a non-judgmental, confidential space to explore your goals around money, and we draw on your strengths and value your choices.

All women are welcome. Interpreting support is available.

Energy Accounts Payment Assistance (EAPA) vouchers

If you're having difficulty paying your current household energy bill because of a short-term financial crisis or emergency, you could be eligible for Energy Accounts Payment Assistance (EAPA) $50 vouchers.

EAPA vouchers are sent electronically to your energy retailer to help pay your home electricity or gas account. Applying for EAPA vouchers involves an eligibility assessment by a NSW Government representative or an approved non-government EAPA provider. 

FuelCheck online tool

Use the FuelCheck online tool to find the cheapest fuel at NSW service stations near you. You can use FuelCheck online or via the app.

NSW Low Income Household Rebate

The NSW Low Income Household Rebate helps eligible concession cardholders pay their electricity bills.

The NSW Low Income Household Rebate is $285 per retail (on-market) household, per financial year. 

You will also automatically receive a one-off National Energy Bill Relief Household Payment of up to $500 in financial year 2023-24 if eligible.

 You may be eligible if you live in NSW and all of the following apply:

  • you have an electricity account for your home in NSW
  • you're the account holder (the account and bill must be in your name)
  • you hold one of the following:
    • Pensioner Concession Card issued by Services Australia or the Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA)
    • Health Care Card issued by Services Australia, or
    • Department of Veterans' Affairs Gold Card marked with either 'War Widow', 'War Widower Pension', 'Totally and Permanently Incapacitated' (TPI) or 'Disability Pension' (EDA).
  • your application for the NSW Low Income Household Rebate is successful
  • your household has not already received the National Energy Bill Relief Household Payment.

NSW Gas Rebate

The NSW Gas Rebate helps eligible concession card holders pay their natural gas or bottled Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) bills. The NSW Gas Rebate is $110 per retail (on-market) household, per financial year. If you are a retail (on-market) customer, you need to contact your gas retailer to apply.

You may be eligible if you live in NSW and all of the following apply:

  • you have a natural gas or bottled gas (LPG) account for your home in NSW
  • you're the account holder (the account and bill must be in your name)
  • you hold one of the following:
    • Pensioner Concession Card issued by Services Australia or the Department of Veterans' Affairs or
    • Health Care Card issued by Services Australia, or
    • Department of Veterans' Affairs Gold Card marked with either 'War Widow', 'War Widower Pension', 'Totally and Permanently Incapacitated' (TPI) or 'Disability Pension' (EDA).

NSW Family Energy Rebate

The NSW Family Energy Rebate helps people with dependent children pay their electricity bills.

The NSW Family Energy Rebate is up to $180 per retail (on-market) household, per financial year.

You will also receive a one-off National Energy Bill Relief Household Payment as a lump sum of up to $500 in financial year 2023-24 if you meet the eligibility criteria.

You may be eligible if you live in NSW and all of the following apply:

  • you have an electricity account for your home in NSW
  • you're the account holder (the account and bill must be in your name)
  • you received the Family Tax Benefit in the previous financial year and you have:
    • lodged your tax return for the last financial year with the Australian Tax Office (ATO), and
    • finalised your entitlement to the Family Tax Benefit payments with Centrelink.
  • your application for the NSW Family Energy Rebate is successful
  • your household has not already received the National Energy Bill Relief Household Payment

School Student Broadband Initiative (SSBI)

This government scheme allows eligible families with no internet at home a free National Broadband Network service until 31 December 2025. 

To be eligible, a family must: 

  • have a child living at home that is enrolled in an Australian school 
  • have no active broadband service over the NBN network 
  • live in a premise when they can access a standard NBN service 
  • not have had an active NBN service during the previous 14 days
