The winners of the third Photo Finish Digital Photography Competition have been announced, bringing a collection of uplifting and cheerful photographs to adorn the walls of both our hospitals.

Patients, volunteers, visitors, and staff showcased their creative talents, submitting over 100 entries across three categories: nature, people and places, and the built environment.

Among the youngest participants (8 years and younger), Caitlin Gould stole the spotlight with her photograph titled "Sea lions on Kangaroo Island."

In the 9 to 12 years category, Sraddha Shailesh secured victory with the "Busy Buzzy Bee," Scarlett Juriansz claimed the top spot for the 13 to 18 years group with "Shadows of the City Life."

In the nature category, Pene Ingle, from CNC Rehab2Kids at SCH, impressed the judges with the intriguing "Brain Jelly."

The "See Saw Scene" by Emma Webster triumphed in the people and places category.

The Built Environment category saw Thomas Dyne's "Autumn Morning" capturing the essence of the theme.

The community had its say through the People's Choice Award, determined by votes via a Facebook post, where Sophie Donohue emerged as the winner with "Flying Home."

Sayeed Zia, SCHN Director of Finance and Corporate Services, thanked the community for their remarkable contributions, acknowledging the challenge of selecting winners from the exceptional pool of entries.

The judges and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the quality of the work submitted by our wonderful community and we thank everyone for their efforts, Sayeed said.

“While it was very difficult to choose just one winning entry, the photos we chose memorably captured the essence of nature, a sense of place and story. I believe the images will help brighten the walls of our hospitals for patients, families and our staff and volunteers.”

The exhibition will be on display at The Children's Hospital at Westmead and Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick, until 4 March 2024.

This year’s Photo Finish judges were Sayeed Zia, SCHN Director of Finance and Corporate Services, Kate Ferguson, Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation’s General Manager, Engagement and Mayuria Mayurathas, SCHN Youth Council representative.
