Activities for kids
There are lots of great activities for children and adolescents while in hospital. If your child can’t leave their bed, we can bring the fun to them!
Adolescent rooms
A non-medical space where adolescent patients and siblings can relax, socialise, and take a break from the clinical environment to spend quality time with friends and family outside of the ward.
Clown doctors
While in hospital you might get a visit from a clown doctor! Clown doctors visit the wards bringing a little fun and silliness to brighten up your day.
Delta dogs
Delta dogs visit the Hospital to bring some joy to kids and teens and to help remind them of their pets they are missing at home.
The delta dogs comfort and inspire many patients in hospital and their visits are a highlight for patients and families.
Family lounges
Our Bilima Building has family lounges located within its inpatient units, offering a welcoming space for parents and carers to step away from the bedside and take a break.
In our Children's and Ainsworth buildings, family lounges also include dedicated parent showers and toilets for convenience.
Please note, family lounges are child-free zones to support rest and recharge for adult carers.
Happy Garden
Located on level 1, between C1North and ICU, the Happy Garden comes complete with an enchanting gazebo, over-sized toadstools, fairy lights and a little bit of magic.
The terrace has been designed to provide easy access for all and is wheelchair and bed-friendly.
The Happy Garden has been generously donated by Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation together with Fairy Sparkle.
Livewire
By day, Livewire delivers activities on the wards. At night, the Starlight Express Room becomes a teen hangout. A chill out zone where you can be social, connect with others, chat with the Livewire staff or take part in a fun workshop.
Outdoor playground
Our outdoor playground is located by our Bilima Building (Building B). It hosts a large slide and climbing structure. It is an accessible space for those in wheelchairs as well.
Playrooms
A patient and sibling space used for:
- Relaxation activities like yoga (including palliative care patients)
- Socialisation through play experiences
- Respite from clinical settings
- Satellite Starlight sessions and Hospital School activities.
No clinical care will be provided to patients in the playroom. Allied Health staff may observe a child in this space, and Child and Music Therapists can use the room with patients and siblings (without occupying the whole room if others would also like to use it).
Starlight Express Room
The Starlight Express Room is a place filled with fun and laughter where kids can just be kids. Watch the latest movies, play Nintendo Wii, Play Station, enjoy arts and crafts, see a performance from Captain Starlight or participate in events and competitions.
The Starlight Express Room is located on the south end of level 3, opposite ward C3south.
- Monday to Friday; 10am – 5pm
- Closed weekends and Public Holidays
