Finding us

The Children's Hospital at Westmead is located at the corner of Hawkesbury Road and Hainsworth Street, Westmead.

The Children's Emergency Department is on Hawkesbury Road, located between The Children's Hospital at Westmead and Westmead Hospital.

Whether you’re planning ahead or on the move, there are a range of helpful transport apps to choose from.

The hospital is signposted from the M2 and M4 motorways, as well as from other major roads such as James Ruse Drive and the Great Western Highway (look for blue ‘Children’s Hospital’ signs).

 

Parking information

Emergency parking

Located at the main entrance of our new hospital building on Hawkesbury Road, Entrance 10, street level. Look for 'Westmead Health Precinct' on the side of the building.

Drop-off zone

There is a 15-minute drop-off and pick-up zone outside the Children’s Emergency Department entrance.

There is also a dedicated drop-off and pick-up zone for patients with mobility access and who have Mobility Parking Scheme permits in the same location.

Paid parking

Car parking is available underneath the hospital building in P5, enter via the main entry plaza and take the ramp down.

Parking

Parent and visitor car parking is located off Hainsworth Street (P6).

  • to reach the carpark follow Hawkesbury Road around the corner (right) to the roundabout
  • a drop-off area is located at the main entrance of the hospital
  • there is lighting in the car park and closed-circuit cameras are monitored by the Security Office
  • height limit to the visitor's carpark is 2 metres
  • parking machines accept all coins, except 5c and 50c
  • you can also use your credit card and notes up to $50. 

All parking fees go directly to the hospital and are used to fund parking facilities and to assist in the provision of health care services.

  • First 15 minutes: free
  • 15 minutes to 1 hour: $8.10
  • 1 hour to 2 hours: $12.00
  • 2 hours to 3 hours: $16.20
  • 3 hours to 4 hours: $18.90
  • 4 hours to 5 hours: 21.70
  • 5 hours + (maximum daily rate): $24.20

Free parking (most street parking limited to 2 hours)

  • Westmead: Hawkesbury Road, Caroline Street, Helen Street, Jessie Street and Hainsworth Street.
  • Northmead : Redbank Road, Beamish Road, Brelogail, Bevan and Balfour Streets.
  • Parramatta Park: parking bays located in Parramatta Park (entry via bottom end of Hainsworth Street).

Mobility parking

Vehicles parking in these spaces must display a current Mobility Parking Permit issued by Service NSW to be eligible to park in these locations otherwise an infringement notice could be issued.

If you are in hospital for more than a week or if you have a healthcare card or Service NSW mobility pass

  • you may be entitled to a parking concession
  • please ask the doctor or nurse looking after your child for details.

Concession criteria

Concession criteria

  • All ongoing cancer treatment patients
  • Long-term patients and their carers who are required to attend the hospital/facility for treatment, for more than one week
  • Patients and their carers attending more than twice a week, including carers of long-term patients who visit frequently
  • Cardiac rehab education and exercise class attendees
  • Daily dressing outpatients
  • Patients and their carers experiencing financial hardship
  • People with a healthcare card, pensioner concession card, gold veterans affair card or a Service NSW mobility parking scheme permit  

How to apply 

If you are an inpatient

  1. Please see the Clinical Support Administrator in the ward you are admitted to
  2. You will be provided with a form which will be validated by a member of your clinical team if you are eligible
  3. Take the form to the Secure Parking office on level two between the Kids Plus Chemist and the Appliance Centre to receive your concession rate.

If you are an outpatient:

  • If you have a health care card, pensioner concession card, gold veterans affairs card or a Service NSW mobility parking scheme permit, please visit the Secure Parking office on level two between the Kids Plus Chemist and the Appliance Centre

OR

  • If you do not have one of these cards, a member of your clinical team should complete an application form on your behalf. You can then take that form to the Secure Parking office.

Concession rates

  • 0 to 3 hours: free
  • 3+ hours: $6.80 (one exit only per 24 hours)
  • 3 day ticket: $13.50 (Frequent use allowing multiple entries and exits in a 3 day period)
  • 7 day ticket: $27.10 (Frequent use allowing multiple entries and exits in a 7 day period)

Any person with a Health Care Card, Gold Veterans Card, Pensioner Concession Card or Service NSW Mobility Permit, are eligible for the following concessions, without completing a form. Please visit the Secure Parking office in level 2 (opposite Outpatients, between the Kids Plus Chemist and the Appliance Centre) to validate your parking ticket:

  • 0 to 3 hours: free
  • 3+ hours: $6.80 (one exit only per 24 hours)

Wheelchair and stroller access

  • the hospital is accessible to people with wheelchairs and strollers
  • there is direct, level access from the visitors’ car park to the main entrance
  • ramps and lifts ensure easy access inside the Hospital.

Please be aware that it can sometimes be difficult to find a spot in the car park as there are many visitors to the Hospital. You should leave plenty of time to park your car or, if possible, have someone drive you to Hospital or use public transport.

You may find free parking in the streets around the Hospital and in Parramatta Park, but it is mostly limited to two hours. 

Public transport

There is a bus stop right outside the Hospital.

Westmead train station is about one kilometre away (around 15 minutes walk).

Trains from other lines change at Parramatta, Strathfield, Central, Granville and Lidcombe.

By car

  • If you are driving, follow the major routes from Penrith, Hornsby, Windsor, Liverpool or Sutherland. 

By train

  • From the Blue Mountains and west (Lithgow), change at Penrith, Parramatta or Blacktown.
  • From north and central coast, change at Strathfield.
  • From the south coast, change at Central.
  • From the south-west (Moss Vale/Campbelltown) change at Granville.
