Infant and baby nutrition

In the first six months, your baby’s only source of nutrition should be breastmilk or infant formula.

You can begin introducing solids and water from around six months (but not before four months).

Starting solids is a key milestone that supports your baby’s growth and development.

Gradually progressing from soft to more textured foods helps develop:

  • mouth and throat function
  • oral motor skills
  • swallowing, sucking, chewing and biting
  • fine motor skills for self-feeding.
