PICU at The Children's Hospital at Westmead

At The Children’s Hospital at Westmead we strive to create a warm, caring and supportive environment for children and their families.

The Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) can accommodate up to 33 patients for intensive care and high-dependency treatment.

We admit patients who just completed surgery – including cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, liver or renal transplantation – or have conditions such as traumas, burns, respiratory or other medical conditions.

The PICU is part of a statewide tertiary referral system that provides intensive care facilities for children from NSW, interstate and overseas if required. We provide care for approximately 1,400 infants, children and adolescents each year.
