Bone cancers

Bone cancers

Bone tumours represent about 5% of cancers in childhood and adolescents.

There are two major types of bone cancer; Osteogenic Sarcoma and Ewings Sarcoma.

  • Osteosarcoma is the most common type of bone cancer and is usually found in bones around the knee.
  • Ewing’s is the second most common form of bone cancer in children. It is most common in the pelvis, thigh, lower leg, upper arm and rib.

These tumours are most often seen in adolescence when independence, self-esteem and body image are a high priority, so it can have psychological effects.
