Leukaemia
Leukaemia
Leukaemia is the most common type of cancer in children. The bone marrow (spongy material inside the bones) makes abnormal white blood cells that can't fight infection.
Leukaemia cells ultimately outgrow normal blood cells, which makes it difficult to prevent infections, carry oxygen and also causes blood to clot.
There are two types of leukaemia:
- Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL)
- Acute Myeloblastic Leukaemia (AML)
