Patients taking part in a clinical trial receive treatment according to the clinical trial’s treatment plan. They are monitored carefully for the desired effect and the side effects of the treatment.

If your child’s treatment is based on a clinical trial, you will receive the schedule of treatments and tests that will be done. This schedule is called a ‘road map.’

The road map tells you what tests and treatments are coming up in the weeks and months ahead. Minor changes may be made to ensure the best outcome.

Whether or not your child is participating in a clinical trial, your physician will follow a treatment plan (protocol) that details both tests and treatments.
