Risk-taking behaviour in children
As children mature into adolescents, they may engage in more risky behaviours.
Peer influence, curiosity or seeking independence and identity can influence an adolescent's decision-making. Poor decision-making can lead young people to act out behaviours which may cause potential harm.
Not all risky behaviour is harmful. Positive risk-taking behaviour is an important part of developmental growth.
